Search Engines & Your Web Site
Currently, I am offering private classes and consulting for individuals or businesses who would like to keep their SEO in house. Please contact us for more information.
I also offer SEO campaign management with or without web design.
I never really thought about it, either. Until I built my first website,
I figured out html, file protocol,
image editing, and finally my first little web site was online. But where
was the business? Why wasn't’ I getting
any "clicks"? More important: if I am not getting any traffic, I am certainly
not getting any sales. Thus began my journey into search engine marketing
and optimization, the lifeblood of your online business.
Some things to know:
- There are a lot of promises made to business owners who are looking for
decent search engine rankings. If you want organic (natural, not paid placement)
search engine placement, however, here is what nobody can promise you:
No company can promise the number one (or three) spot. Each search engine
establishes number one by a complicated algorithm (mathematical formula)
that is unique to each search engine, and each algorithm is tweaked on
an ongoing basis to keep current with web trends. Those spots cannot be
guaranteed by anyone.
- A good SEO specialist will build or optimize your site according to “white
hat” (ethical) SEO standards, do research, and can advise you if
your site is in a competitive enough arena that you might want to look
into a pay per click (paid search engine placement) campaign. “Black
hat” SEO can get your site KICKED OUT of search engines. Black hat
SEO is anything an unethical webmaster will use to trick the search engines
into thinking your site in more relevant than it is in order to increase
rankings. Once your site is kicked out it can be tough to be included again.
Make sure your webmaster adheres to “white hat” ethical seo
guidelines.
- If you have a business that will be competing with many other sites,
many businesses start out with a pay per click campaign until their site
has achieved satisfactory rankings and traffic. It can take search engines
months to find your site, and traffic building can be an ongoing project.
You can choose to simply build your site correctly or use a professional
on a monthly basis to keep track of your pay per click campaigns & build
your links in. Depending on your competition I can help you decide what
is most needed in your individual case.
- Before you begin building your site a keyword analysis by a professional
is integral to your sites’ success in the search engines. It can
help you decide what information to focus on and include in your site,
and what to focus on copy-wise.
An in-depth definition of SEO and search engine marketing on Wikipedia
"Search engine optimization (SEO), a subset of search engine marketing, is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results. SEO can also target specialized searches such as image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.
SEO is marketing by understanding how search algorithms work and what human visitors might search for, to help match those visitors with sites offering what they are interested in finding. Some SEO efforts may involve optimizing a site's coding, presentation, and structure, without making very noticeable changes to human visitors, such as incorporating a clear hierarchical structure to a site, and avoiding or fixing problems that might keep search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts, involve including unique content on pages that can be easily indexed and extracted from those pages by search engines while also appealing to human visitors"{Click to read more}
